This month’s community spotlight is Serpentine, a highly ranked VALORANT player who joined Training Grounds in the spring of 2021!
Q: What is your name?
Q: What is your In Game Name (ign)?
Q: How old are you?
Q: Where are you from? (State or part of state)
Q: How long have you been a part of Training Grounds?
A: Since April of 2021!
Q: What TG Game do you play?
A: I play VALORANT!
Q: How have you improved at VALORANT since joining Training Grounds?
A: I joined in April as a plat 2 player, but I hit Immortal after the 6 week camp and coaching from Rai! Coach Rai was extremely helpful, not only to me, but also to the whole team, he taught all of us how to play to the best of our abilities.
Q: That is a pretty impressive rank jump. What is your mindset towards competition and games?
A: Normally I am pretty nervous when I play, but I work pretty hard to push that away and TG has helped a lot with that. If things start going in our favor, maybe we win the pistol and smg rounds, it is easy to build ego and have a good mental for the rest of the match. But also, if you start losing, that’s okay, you can always still win! Losing really badly sucks, but every game is winnable, even if you are down 12-0 just one round away from losing. I used to get really mad when I would lose, but now I think really positive, listen to other pros and how they deal with tilt. I get up and wash my hands and change some game things around maybe, listen to music, anything to get my mind off the loss. Sometimes listening to my friends getting mad at losses shows me how ridiculous the tilt can sound, so that encourages me to keep a positive mindset when playing no matter the result.
Q: Who are some of your favorite agents to play?
A: I play mostly Jett, Reyna, Sova, and Raze
Q: What do you like about those agents, and VALORANT in general?
A: VALORANT is just a really cool game. I came from playing CS:GO (Counterstrike: Global Offensive) and it is really fun to have so many more abilities in VALORANT. It just adds another layer to the game and makes it more interesting. I find VALORANT really fun to mess around in, but it is also awesome to play competitively. I still really enjoy playing CS:GO, but VALORANT is more fun!
Q: What is your favorite memory from a Training Grounds camp?
A: That is really hard to say, there are a lot! I really enjoy playing 10-mans, and getting to meet new people and compete and play together. I really like playing in the monthly Showdowns, even though we didn’t win the last one we had a great time playing. We get to play on an actual team at Training Grounds, and getting to play in a coordinated and practiced way is way more fun. We get to practice strategies and play FOR something, not just rank.
Q: What is the best part about Training Grounds?
A: The community is awesome. As soon as everyone joined the discord server, we just started talking. People are always talking and playing games in voice chats, staff are around all the time, people played together a ton, and then once the camp was over we joined the youth community server, which has hundreds of people, and that fun just increased 10-fold! Way more people, way more events, more coaches to talk to and learn from, we get to play in those tournaments, it is really cool. I love it here.
Q: What do you like about esports?
A: I really like the competitive aspect, and the general esports community. Sure, there are players, but there is so much more – fans, viewers, streamers, the watch parties and tournaments.. and of course the games themselves!
Q: Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
A: I want to join the UCF roster, and play collegiate once I go to college! I would really like to compete in Tier 2. Well, I would love to compete in Tier 1 (laughs) but it is really hard and maybe unlikely. But, I won’t stop trying!
