This month’s community spotlight is Katie, a camper who’s been with Training Grounds since the beginning!

Q: What is your name?
A: Katie

Q: What is your In Game Name (ign)?
A: Villain2katie

Q: How old are you?
A: 15

Q: Where are you from? (State or part of state)
A: SoCal (Southern California)

Q: How long have you been a part of Training Grounds?
A: Since Summer TG (June 2020)

Q: What TG Game do you play, and what is your role?
A: League of Legends Support

Q: What do you like about that game and role?
A: I really like League of Legends because of the various ways that you can play it to win and that you can always expect the unexpected. The different uses of abilities and items always keeps me thinking on how I can adjust my gameplan to make sure my team and I always end up at the top. My main role, support, allows me to creatively think about how I can assist my team by effectively gathering/communicating information about the game while also putting our game plan into action. It has taught me a lot about being a leader and a follower, skills that I have been able to use out of the games as well.

Q: What is your favorite memory from a Training Grounds camp?
A: My favorite memory from a camp was probably the first in-house that I participated in during Summer Camp. It was my first time playing with players who weren’t on my team and I had a blast being able to meet the other campers in C9TG. Even though we’ve all been in the Discord together for a while by then, playing with them allowed me loosen up a bit and drop the formalities and have fun.

Q: What is the best part about Training Grounds?
A: The best part about Training Grounds is the Community and underlying opportunities that may not always be shown. When you join Training Grounds, not only are you in a community of passionate players, but you’re surrounded by a loving family who is there to help you grow and improve alongside you. I was able to start the Junior Counselor Program with the help of the supportive staff who not only took the time to look through my proposal, but worked with me every week to make this program even better.

Q: What is your favorite non-TG game to play and why?
A: My favorite non-TG game to play is Age of Empires III: Asian Dynasties because it involves a lot of planning with your teammates and coordination among your village. You’re own skill is just as important as youre skills with working with your team since it is only until a certain threshold where the game slowly becomes reliant on how well you and your teammates can work together.

Q: What does esports mean to you?
A: To me, Esports means a large gaming community that has families from various aspects of the title, from cosplayers, to professional gamers, and even the professional side. It’s the place where I have found my new home and have grown the most as both a player, but as a person as well.

Q: Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
A: In 5 years, I would be nearing the end of my time in college, hopefully at one that has provided me with both a major in Business Management and a leadership position on their Esports team. By then, I hope that my growing High School Esports Community, California Region Esports, would become the main League for high schoolers to compete in.

Thank you Katie!
